Hot Shooting Lithuania Topple Ukraine 22 July 2008
Lithuania scorched the Ukraine with six three-pointers in the second quarter to secure a 71-52 win in the U18 European Championship for Women.

Aurime Rinkeviciute hit four of seven attempts from downtown in the first half to help Lithuania remain one of only two teams - France being the other - still undefeated (4-0) in the tournament. Marina Solopova had

a team-high 16 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists.

Ukraine took a 7-5 lead on Olesya Malashenko's first basket, but Feodora Kochergina's girls then went scoreless for some five minutes, paving the way for the Lithuanians to go on a roll.

And they did just that, turning a 16-9 first-quarter lead into a 43-19 half-time score, courtesy of their shooters - Rinkeviciute, Marina Solopova and Gabriele Gutkauskaite.

There was precious little Ukraine could do to stop their opponents who had the hot hand from just about everywhere on the floor in the first two quarters.

And Ramune Kumpiene's side did not take their foot off the accelerator either after the break as they took a 59-37 advantage after the third quarter.

Ukraine cut into that deficit in the final period by which stage the game's outcome had long been decided.

Ol'Ha Maznichenko led the Ukrainians with 18 points and five rebounds.
