France Get Past Sweden 18 July 2008

Margaux Okou Zouzoue provided a timely spark off the bench as France made up for a slow start to route Sweden 91-60 at the U18 European Championship for Women.

Okou Zouzoue had a team-high 17 points in only 19 minutes to lead a balanced offense which saw seven players score eight points or more.

Stefanie Yderstrom and Danielle Hamilton Carter got Sweden off to an impressive start that had them in front, 20-18, at the end of the first quarter.

But Okou Zouzoue helped awaken her team from its daze as she scored eight points in a 17-0 run that saw France turn their two-point deficit into a 35-20 advantage which pretty much put the game out of reach for Sweden.

Les Bleus didn't rely only on Okou Zouzoue as captain Allison Vernerey, Aminata Konate and Myriam Igoufe each played their part - at both ends of the floor - to build a 52-35 lead at the break.

Sweden scored the first five points of the second half to come back within striking distance at 53-40.

However, France weren't about to relax and stated that emphatically by scoring 16 of the next 19 points for a commanding 69-43 lead.

Once again, Okou Zouzoue provided a timely boost, scoring nine points in the third quarter.

The final period was merely a procedure as France rested its star players.

Yderstrom finished with 17 points but was forced into seven turovers.
