Second Quarter Run Propels Lithuania 19 July 2008
Lithuania used a 12-0 run in the second quarter to turn the game in its favour for good as they secured a 73-61 win over Poland at the U18 European Championship for Women.

With the victory, Ramune Kumpiene's side became the first to remain undefeated, topping Group B with a 2-0 record.

Aurime Rinkeviciute had an impressive all-around game with 23 points, five rebounds and three assists as Lithuania's balanced scoring - with four players reaching double figures - were able to offset the offensive onslaught of Poland's Olivia Tomialowicz and Magda Kaczmarkska.

Both teams struggled to find the mark early on, but Lithuania took the ascendency, 20-19, at the end of the first quarter - despite shooting only 33 per cent from the field.  The difference came in the free-throw disparity as Poland missed their only two attempts while their opponents hit six of 10.

Poland started hitting from the charity stripe in the second period and jumped in front 23-20, but Giedre Paugaite - who finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds - scored five of next seven points for Lithuania who used a 12-0 run to lead by as many as seven, 32-25.

The Poles kept their composure and came back within four, 40-36, at the half following Kaczmarska's lay up.

Tomialowicz was on fire and already had 22 points by the end of the third quarter to keep her team within five,  58-53.

But that's as close as Poland would get as their two star players eventually cooled off and Lithuania's poise and team work proved to be the winning ingredients on the day.

Tomialowicz had 26 points and Kaczmarska added 17.
